Old Overholt is an appropriately old brand of rye whiskey and one half of “The Olds”, alongside Bad Santa’s favourite, Old Grand-Dad. It’s a classic straight rye produced by Jim Beam.
Nose: Not as ‘in your face’ as rye can be, but the mild spice is there, alongside some sweetness and fruitiness, especially apples.
Palate: Vanilla, then that rye spice, summer fruits with some darker spices developing.
Finish: More prominent rye on the finish.
Overall: A cocktail-making American classic.
If this is Bad Santa’s Favourite. You better have a glass ready at Xmas.
